Mastopexy (breast lift) is a procedure designed to correct sagging breasts following childbirth or aging. Tissue is removed from the lower pole of the breast and the nipples are repositioned leaving a scar in a vertical line below the nipple. Breast implants are usually inserted to give the breast more fullness and to hold the lift longer. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under anesthesia. Dr. Narsete prefers to have at least two visits prior to surgery to go over the details of surgery and choose the size of a breast implant.
When should I have the surgery?
The mastopexy is best performed when you are done childbearing. Since the surgery reverses breast shape changed following pregnancy, you can choose any time so long as you are not planning more children. Plan to have someone take care of you for 1-2 days following your surgery.
What do I expect with recovery?
Recovery is similar to a breast augmentation. You will need 5-7 days to recover. During this time you should minimize your activities and then gradually build up your tolerance. There will be a period of swelling for about 6 weeks, and the implants will then take their normal position. The scar on the breast needs 6-12 months to fade.
