Breast Enhancement

KEEPING ABREAST – Breast Enhancement

Discussions around breasts are rarely controversy-free. There are questions women think about from the time they enter puberty until they’ve had children, until age begins to paint a picture. Are my breasts too small? Too asymmetrical? Do they sag, are they too large? But in all cases, breast health is key all around. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to start by exploring the complex and deeply personal relationship women have with their breasts and help you determine if breast enhancement is right for you.

What’s common are our inner conflicts; we love ours, we hate ours. We wish they were different. We wish they were bigger, smaller, perkier and more even. They make us want to cry, they make us green-eyed with envy. To say we’re obsessed with our breasts is an understatement, and in addition to questioning how we look, we question how the world sees us. The point is, they are ours. Our breasts are a deeply personal and intimate part of ourselves. And while we often want to change them, the point to remember is that they have nothing to do with how beautiful we are, and how much we should love ourselves.

Breast Enhancement is defined as a way to enhance your image and self-confidence through the use of different breast surgery procedures. When most women hear “breast enhancement” they immediately think breast implants. But that is only one of several procedures available to enhance your breasts’ appearance. Women often begin to be critical from an early age when their breast tissue doesn’t grow. Self-consciousness comes early. And continues throughout life.

We’re critical where we should be loving and accepting of who we are. We want to change in dozens of ways, and our breasts are one of them. The one thing to remember before considering any procedure, is that the word “perfect” has no place in cosmetic breast surgery.

One procedure is called a Breast Lift. In the past 16 years, the number of patients opting for breast lifts has risen almost 600 percent, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This suggests a new trend in breast surgery that isn’t the quest for what you never had, but instead for what you’ve lost. Patients say, “I want my own breasts back.”  A breast lift raises the breasts by removing excess skin, then tightening and repositioning the breast tissue higher on the chest wall to reshape and support the new breast contour. The result? A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful, recreating what women see as the firm and perky look they feel they’ve lost. Additionally, sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift can reduce this as well. Can’t you just picture how it can lift your spirits?

In a world that’s obsessed with breasts – especially the big and bouncy variety, those who are less-than-blessed in the chest department can often feel not just their breasts, but even their egos a little deflated. Large breasts have their celebrity:

  • Jenny McCarthy
  • Kate Upton
  • Katy Perry
  • Salma Hayek
  • Scarlett Johansson
  • Sofia Vergara
  • Niki Minaj
  • Kim K
  • Kat Dennings
  • Chrissy Teigen
  • Carmen Electra
  • Mariah Carey
  • Christina Aguilera
  • Jessica Simpson

The list goes on. And on the Red Carpets everywhere, these celebrities’ large breasts are beyond admired by both men and women. Which doesn’t mean they’re a size that women should aspire to. The fact is, women see women everywhere with what they consider enviable breasts. After all, women with small or misshapen breasts have gone through a lot. Unless you want to wear children’s’ training bras or go specialist internet shopping, trying to find a bra smaller than an A cup is practically impossible.  Cleavage is only a dream. And stuffing a bra with, well anything, is a nightmare you want to wake up from.

This is where Breast Augmentation comes in. “IMPLANTS!” You shudder. “They’ll be unnatural. Everyone will know.” Well, know this: breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries these days. It involves the use of saline or gel implants to add more volume to the breasts, and create a more contoured appearance that complements the body shape.

Breast augmentation isn’t just used by women who have what they consider barely-there-breasts. It is also a preferred procedure for women who want to restore breast volume and shape loss due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, and abnormal weight loss. Even to correct asymmetry of the breasts. With the right doctor who has had extensive experience, no one but the two of you (and anyone else you’re excited to show) has to know.

By the time she was a teen, Ariel Winter, the Modern Family star, says she felt her breasts were “too big.” As she got older, she revealed that “having extremely large breasts is really ostracizing and excruciatingly painful. Having Breast Reduction surgery was an instant weight lifted off my chest—both literally and figuratively.” Without question, there’s a confidence you find when you finally feel right in your body.

Ask just about any large breasted woman and they’ll tell you that there are more people than you think who pile on the ridicule. It’s just a different kind of “body-shaming”. And like the actual physical pain you experience, it hurts. Extremely large breasts have been linked to a number of physical complaints including back aches, neck pain, and shoulder pain and even numbness in the fingers. Large breasts affect nearly 1 million American women. Which means you’re not suffering alone.
